New Design and Revised Content

The newly designed Sea Scout Manual (No. 33239) is now available for purchase for $24.99 at your local Scout Shop or online at www.scoutstuff.org.

The new manual is designed to support Sea Scout youth members and provides guidance and information in four main areas.

  • Ship Organization and Uniforms
  • Ship Operations
  • Advancement and Recognition, and
  • Safety and Seamanship

Each page of the new manual is loose-leafed, three-hole punched that allows for easy updates in a binder or notebook.  Users can organize the manual in any fashion they like.  Also new to the manual is a DVD/CD that provides helpful supporting information -

  • How to tie knots (video)
  • How to prepare and play the Boatswain's pipe (video)
  • How to set up a landship with opening and closing ceremonies (video)
  • Printable forms and articles that support program, leadership, and advancement

The manual may be made periodically prior to the next print edition.  These changes and updates will be made available to users online and they can be easily placed in your Sea Scout Manual binder or notebook; just remove the old page and replace it with the new one.  We will also announce changes on our website and by e-mail when these changes are made.

Sea Scouts and the New Requirements

As part of the transition to the new requirements, a Sea Scout currently working on a rank has one year to complete the rank under the current requirements before being required to use the new ones in the new edition of the Sea Scout Manual, No. 33239. All Sea Scouts should start the next rank using the new requirements. All members are encouraged to begin using the new requirements and the new resources as soon as they are released. The one year grace period starts December 1, 2010. The new manual was available to order from National Supply beginning November 1,2010.
