Requirements Clarified

The National Council recently made significant changes to the ScoutNET PAS, MyScouting, and Internet Rechartering software to validate that Youth Protection training requirements are met.

Direct contact leaders who have not taken the training and those who have taken it more than 24 months ago are being denied the ability to renew their membership until the training is taken.

There are three Youth Protection training courses:

  • the general course (Y01) for Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders, district- and council-level positions;
  • the course for Venturing leaders (Y02); and,
  • the course for Exploring leaders (Y03).

Based upon a leader's position, the system validates the specific course.

To help ensure that no Venturing crew's or Sea Scout ship’s chance to recharter is jeopardized this year, effective November 1, 2010, the BSA will temporarily change the software to allow direct contact Venturing and Sea Scout leaders to re-register if they have completed either the general Youth Protection training (Y01) or the Venturing version of Youth Protection training (Y02).

It is anticipated that this grace period will expire no later than June 1, 2011.
